LAHORE - The SNGPL has announced to restore gas supply to Punjab industries for five days a week in line with the directive of the President of Pakistan while Faisalabad will be given top priority in this regard. This was stated by the deputy MD SNGPL M Shariq while talking to media here at APTMA House on Thursday. He said that on recommendations of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association to ensure immediate hiring of thousands of textile workers associated with cottage weaving industries, Faisalabad has been given preference in restoration of gas supply to industries in Punjab. He said since largest numbers of workers were affected due to gas cut, the APTMA proposed to restore supplied to that city from March 4 while the five days a week gas supplies would be restored in Lahore from March 8. He said notification in this regard has been issued. The SNGPL Deputy MD said that the needs of the textile industry would be kept in mind while managing the short supply of gas. On the occasion chairman APTMA thanked the president for immediate restoration of gas to the province. He said three member committee comprising Secretary Petroleum, MD PEPCO and chairman APTMA sorted out the modalities for restoration of normal gas supplies to the Punjab industries. Chairman APTMA hoped that the SNGPL authorities would comply fully with the directive of the President and industries would not be deprived of gas beyond what has been agreed between all stakeholders. He said the LNG option is the only viable long term solution to our energy needs until the new gas discoveries are made.
