8 dead, many injured in road accidents during Eid days

LAHORE - At least eight people including three one-wheelers lost their lives while many other were injured in separate road accidents that took place during Eid days in the City. According to details, two youngsters Yasir, 23, and Jawad, 25, left their Sukh Nehr residences to celebrate Chand Raat. They were on the way on a motorcycle playing tricks while doing one-wheeling. Suddenly Yasir lost his balance when they reached in Manawan police limits and their bike bumped into footpath. Later both fell in the canal. Rescue 1122 ambulances rushed to the spot and shifted them to the Services Hospital. Yasir however, died on the way while his friend Jawad succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The bodies of the both young men were handed over to the families. Similarly, one-wheeling claimed life of another youth later identified as Muhammad Sajid. The incident took place on the Ferozepur Road when the local resident Sajid was riding his bike on the back wheel and suddenly lost his balance. Resultantly, the bike bumped into a footpath and the youth sustained critical head injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital but died on the way. Another youth Sajjad, 25, sustained critical head injuries when his head struck with an electricity pole near Jia Baga. City Raiwind police said the victim was standing at the stepladder of the door of a moving train when the incident took place. He was immediately rushed to the Jinnah Hospital but succumbed to head injuries on the way. In Kotlakhpat police limits, a 40-year-old man identified as Muhammad Khalil was crossing the road near Lahore General Hospital when a rashly driven car hit him. The man, police said, died at the spot while the car rider managed to escape from the spot along with his vehicle. Similarly, a youth, Muhammad Awais, lost his life in a road mishap took place in Ichra police limits. He was crossing the road near underpass when a speedy auto rickshaw crushed him. The youth sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the Services Hospital where he expired. Another man M Naveed, 35, succumbed to his injuries at the Mayo Hospital. He sustained critical head injuries when a speedy vehicle ran over him near Bhati Chowk. A 70-year-old unidentified man was crushed to death by a speedy unknown car in Shahdara police limits. The victim was crossing the road. Man dies in battery-like blast A 35-year-old man died when a locally made battery-like explosive material went off in his hands in Manga Mandi police limits on first day of the Eid-ul-Fitr. According to details, the victim Liaqat Ali, a resident of Jalian Wala Road was running a hotel alongside the Rohi Naulla. On the day of incident a local resident Muhammad Niaz took him to the Dera of one Muhammad Rasheed where some other friends of Niaz were also present besides the Dera owner. The people present at the Dera asked the victim that Rasheed wanted to give him a gift on the occasion of Eid and later handed him over a box. The box suddenly exploded with a bang and Liaqat sustained critical injuries soon after he opened it. He was immediately rushed to the Jinnah Hospital by some other locals but Liaqat succumbed to his injuries. Police said the box was carrying battery-like explosive material, which went off suddenly and claimed the life of young man. Police officials said that the man died under mysterious circumstances. Police however arrested the Dera owner and his some friends who were present on the occasion. To a query, a police investigator said that some parts of the explosive material have been sent to the laboratory concerned for examination and a case has been registered against the arrested people on the complaint of victim's father-in-law.  About the motive behind the murder of the innocent man, the investigator said apparently it seemed that the alleged killers wanted to play a joke with the victim.
