52 litres of liquor seized, six arrested

SIALKOT   -  The district police have arrested six drug-peddlers and recovered narcotics.

A spokesman said that a police launched a massive crackdown on drug-peddlers and criminal elements across the district. Those arrested on Friday were identified as Nadeem Akhtar, Qaiser Mehmood, Adeel Shahzad, Ali Raza, Ilyas and Abdul Hafeez. Police recovered 52 litres of liquor and 3.775kg hashish from the accused.

Two muharrars suspended

Two muharrars (constables) have been suspended on corruption charges. According to police, District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani suspended Head Constable Javed Iqbal at the Civil Lines Police Station, while Head Constable Maqbool Ahmed was suspended at Kotli Loharan police station. The DPO also ordered a departmental probe.

Anti-typhoid, anti-polio campaigns this month

A 12-day anti-typhoid and 5-day anti-polio campaign would be conducted in the Sialkot district this month. All arrangements had been completed as per the micro plan, including training of the staff, and finalisation of their duty charts, etc.

This was announced by Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq while reviewing the arrangements for the anti-polio campaign and the ongoing corona vaccination process in the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Farooq Akmal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) District Health Authority Dr Aslam Chaudhry, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Afzal Bhili, DHQ Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Munir Javed, representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Muhammad Yasir, focal person Muhammad Tanveer Shehzad, District Emergency Officer (DEO) Engineer Naveed Iqbal, Secretary District Road Transport Authority DRTA Muzaffar Hayat and local officials of all departments concerned attended the meeting.

The DC said that more than 650,000 children, under the age of five years, would be vaccinated against polio during the campaign. To prevent typhoid fever, 409,438 children between the ages of 9 months and 15 years would be vaccinated in 28 urban union councils of the Sialkot district. The anti-polio campaign will start on June 7, and anti-typhoid campaign from June 14.
