Bank robbed of Rs7m in daylight heist

MULTAN – About six unidentified armed outlaws robbed a bank in broad daylight and made away with at least Rs7m amount quite conveniently here in Gulgasht area on Friday. “The dacoits came on two cars, entered the bank, snatched arms from the guards, collected cash and fled,” said the manager of the robbed branch of Meezan Bank.
The police suspected that the dacoits had come from any other area as they communicated in Urdu and none of them wore mask. Police also expressed dissatisfaction on bank’s security arrangements and said that the security apparatus was rather poor. Police sources said that the outlaws entered the bank at 10:45 am and completed their action within eight minutes.
“After disarming the guards, they fired one shot in the air, disabled CCTV cameras, spoiled the footage and fled with the cash,” sources added. The district police blocked entry and exit points of the city and launched a search operation to nab the robbers. However, no person was arrested till filing of this report.
PROTESTS: The PPP workers continued their protest against conviction of PM Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Friday.
The workers from NA-151 gathered at Bahadurpur Chowk on Bosan Road under the leadership of Malik Ghulam Abbas and Haji Ali Sher Bosan and chanted sloganeers in the PM’s favour. The protesters turned violent and blocked Bosan Road as a result of which long queues of vehicles assembled up on both sides.
Talking to the journalists, the protesters said that the conviction of PM was highly unjustified and the masses rejected this court order. They added that the court of people gave its verdict on the same day in terms of Success of a PPP candidate Usman Bhatti in by-polls.
 “This verdict is heavier than all other decisions.”
