Isfandyar guides Army to win in Pakistan Polo Cup

LAHORE - Maj Gen Isfandyar Ali Khan Pataudi struck superb three to guide Army to 7-3 impressive victory over Guard Group/Newage in the 12-goal Clarks Pakistan Polo Cup 2015 match played at the Lahore Polo Club on Thursday.
The first chukker of the match saw only goal from hero of the day Maj Gen Isfandyar, who is also chairman of Pakistan Polo Association (PPA). Navid Shaikh opened the second chukker for Guard Group/Newage with his field goal to level the score 1-1. Ahmad Bilal Riaz and foreign player Tomas Lorente contributed one goal each to help Army take 3-1 lead before the end of the second chukker.
The third chukker proved comparatively better for Guard Group/Newage as they slammed two back-to-back goals one each by Matias Vial Perez and Taimur Ali Malik to level the score 3-3. Maj Haseeb Minhas’ field goal helped Army take 4-3 lead before the end of the third chukker.
The fourth and last chukker of the match was fully dominated by Army as they struck three back-to-back goals to stamp their authority and finished the chukker leading 7-3. Maj Gen Isfandyar hammered two more goals to complete his three-goal haul while Ahmad Bilal hit his second and team’s last goal.
Hissam Ali Hyder and Usman Haye were the umpires while Zain Khan Khakwani was the referee. Tomorrow (Friday), two matches will be played. In the first match, Polo d’ Sooferman will take on Hattaf at 2:15pm while Master Paints will vie against Royal Palm in the second match at 3:15pm.
