ISLAMABAD - The Unicef would support Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) for launching Child Support Programme (CSP) in Swat district. In a meeting held here on Tuesday, senior representatives from UNICEF were briefed by Managing Director PBM Zamurd Khan. Highlighting the CSP, Zamurd said that PBM has successfully piloted CSP in three selected districts i.e. Bhakkar, Tharparkar & Kohistan and it is a conditional transfer, envisaging increase literacy rate and reduced dropout ration amongst children to compliment in achieving United Nations Millennium Development Goal of Universal Primary Education. Additional Cash incentive is being paid to the Food Support Programme (FSP) beneficiaries at the rate of Rs 300 per month to the families with one child and Rs 600 per month to the families with two or more that two children of school going age. He added. MD PBM told the participants that so far, ten CSP quarterly payments have been completed successfully in three pilot districts. An amount of Rs 88.33 million has been disbursed among 8,000 beneficiaries of each quarterly instalment and presently the programme has been upscaled in additional eight districts of Pakistan. MD PBM said that according to Gallup Pakistan Evaluation recent report shows the positive impact of the pilot project as the enrolment rate where CSP implemented has been increased by 12%. In collaboration with UNICEF, PBM will initially start CSP in Swat district where children of IDPs of war against terrorism will be provided Conditional Cash Transfer to send their children to primary schools. Through this agreement, UNICEF will provide USD 300,000 (three hundred thousand US Dollars) in content of technical and benefit cost support PBM initially for the period of 18 months. After successful implementation, this programme would be implemented in other districts across Pakistan. UNICEF representatives also appreciated Pakistan Sweet Homes; a project for rehabilitation of orphan children.
