IG Sindh disbands all Special Investigation Teams

Karachi: Prompted by a news report, Inspector General of (IG) of Sindh Police, Ghulam Haider Jamali disbanded all the Special Investigation Teams (SITs) in the province with immediate effect today.

"No Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) will not be authorized to constitute any special unit," the IGP told reporters. Earlier, a private TV channel reported a gang of cops involved in unwarranted arrests, unlawful detention, fake encounter and extrajudicial killings in the eastern district of the metropolis.

“Special Investigation Team (SIT) East, a unit of Karachi Police is at the center of gross violations that led to the deaths of dozens of citizens,” a whistleblower, who himself is a part of that ring of cops, revealed.

IGP Jamali said the DIG West had been tasked to get to the bottom of the allegations faced by the SIT East.

It is noteworthy that 'outlaw' cops running the SIT East are also said to have hands in the custodial killing of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker.
