Karachi bleeds

Each month many an innocent man is shot dead. These happenings have become a daily routine in Karachi. I recall that some 25 years ago a friend met with an accident and was held responsible for running over a man on the street, who succumbed to his injuries. The court calculated the compensation to the beneficiaries at the rate of the daily wage earned by the deceased. He was a skilled carpenter. The family was awarded compensation by the court and the case was closed. This was the story of an accident and not a deliberate act. Today there are many victims but no one to compensate their families. Such victims are mostly the poor who are shot dead ruthlessly. They are the ones who leave their families in the middle of the ocean on a stormy sea called life. Will the government please come to their rescue?
