Speakers highlight teachers’ role in transforming society

Peshawar    -    Speakers at an event on World Teachers’ Day on Wednesday underscored the crucial role of teachers in the transformation of education and training of the younger generation. UOP Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Idrees was the Chief Guest at the event, jointly organised by the Institute of Education and Research, University of Peshawar and Dosti Welfare Organisation and it featured speech competitions, panel discussions and tableaus. A large number of the students and faculty members of the IER and University Model School (UMS) for Girls attended the event. At the start of the event, students of UMS welcomed the guests through a tableau. IER director Prof Dr Abdur Rauf welcomed the guests and threw light on the importance of World Teachers’ Day. Dr Rauf said the day was being celebrated since 1944 to pay homage to the services of teachers to the community. Dr Rauf said that teachers’ contribution to the development of the nations could not be underestimated. The Vice Chancellor said that teaching was an honourable profession. Dr Idrees urged the teachers to work hard to properly educate their students. “We should always imagine the future of the students before us,” he said. Dr Idrees on the occasion also inaugurated the department of health and physical education at the IER. A panel discussion was held regarding the role of students in the transformation of education and faculty members including Dr Syed Munir Ahmed, Dr Amjad Reba and other teachers took part in it and answered the students’ questions. Certificates of appreciation were also distributed among teachers on this occasion. The students and faculty members also held a walk on campus.
