COLOMBO/LAHORE - The mortal remains of the victim of Sialkot tragedy Priyantha Diyawadana reached to his home country on Monday evening.
Pakistan Acting High Commissioner Tanvir Ahmad and Press Secretary Kalsoom Qaiser received the mortal remains and conveyed the sympathies of the people and government of Pakistan to the relatives of the deceased present at the airport.
Meanwhile representatives from all walks of life visited the Pakistan High Commission, Colombo.
Those who came were from Sri Lankan Parliament and were Coordinators for the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for all religions including Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Islam.
All of them expressed their satisfaction over the quick action of the Pakistan Government in apprehension of the perpetrators of the Sialkot tragedy.
They also appreciated the fact that the Prime Minister Imran Khan personally headed the whole situation and took personal interest in bringing the culprits to justice.
They shared feelings of sorrow and grief for the family of the victims and thanked the Acting High Commissioner Tanvir Ahmad for prompt response to all contacting the Pakistan High Commission for information or recording their sentiments.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that the perpetrators had no mercy from God and they will not be given any pardon by the law as well.
Remains of Priyantha flown to Sri Lanka
The dead body of Priyantha Kumara was flown back to Sri Lanka with the full official protocol from Lahore Airport on Monday. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, Honorary Sri Lankan Consul General Yasin Joya, officials of Sri Lankan High Commission and provincial home department were present on the occasion. Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Ijaz Alam received the body on behalf of Chief Minister Sardar Usman.
In a statement, the chief minister said that the entire nation shared grief of the family of the Sri Lankan national. “I assure the bereaved family that the government is fulfilling its responsibilities. More than 131 accused have been arrested along with 26 main culprits,” he continued. “The case will be pursued in anti-terrorism court and all requirements of justice will be fulfilled. Exemplary punishment will be ensured to the culprits. I am personally overseeing the progress on the case,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, the police arrested seven main accused in different raids involved in planning, torture, instigating and attacking the Sri Lankan manager in Sialkot. The chief minister directed the police to expedite the investigation process as 131 accused had been apprehended.
According to the police spokesperson, the Punjab CM and IG Police are monitoring the investigations, and the Prosecution Department secretary has been tasked with supervising the prosecution of the case. “The identification of those involved in torture and instigating the attack is in progress as 26 main culprits have been identified in the police investigation,” the spokesperson said.
