MANDI BAHAUDDIN-Under the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) System, a number of civil and criminal cases have been settled amicably through mediation and free consent of the parties, said District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Javedul Hassan Chishti.

The ADR system has proved beneficial for the people. He was addressing a workshop held at ADR Centre established on the court premises. Judges, bar members and media persons attended the workshop. He said the Lahore High Court had appointed two civil judges to dispose of the disputes when the parties desire. The parties gather at ADR Centre where they negotiate terms and condition for compromise. The process takes place in a friendly atmosphere. Once they settle dispute through their mutual consent and conciliation, the presiding officer records their statements and refer them to the court concerned for final decision. Thus, the dispute is settled and the parties are saved from long adjudication.

The DSJ said ADR Centre was playing a positive role not only in deciding cases through mediation but also it is contributing to the administration of speedy and transparent justice. However, he added, there was need to educate the public about the importance of resolving disputes by ADR Centre. He called upon the participants to play their part in creating awareness of litigants to seek disposal of their cases by ADR Centre through mediation as it would save them from lengthy process of litigation which is expensive in terms of expenditure and time.

The resolution of disputes will also bury difference between the parties and promote harmony and brotherhood bond. The DPO who was present in the workshop said police would give full support to ADR Centre in resolving dispute through mediation.
