LCCI and LWMC sign MoU
LAHORE (Staff Reporter): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Lahore Waste Management Company have inked a memorandum of understanding to act joint in cleaning and greening the industrial zones and around Lahore. LCCI Vice President Zeshan Khalil and Farrukh Qayyum Butt from Lahore Waste Management Company inked MoU on behalf of their organizations. Mian Muhammad Nawaz, Tahmina Saeed Chaudhry, Mian Zahid Javed and Rizwan Akhter were also present on the occasion. Through this accord, both organizations will initiate joint efforts to make the industrial parks and zones “Environmental Friendly” by greening the city and ensuring the cleanliness of the markets. LCCI Vice President Zeshan Khalil said that it was a good initiative taken by government to joint venture with foreign companies to bring paradigm shift in the overall approach of your workforce. He said that the contracts signed with Turkish firms in 2011 totally changed the outlook of LWMC. He said that with the addition of state-of-the-art equipment, the efficiency of LWMC was drastically improved.
The slogan – Clean Lahore – was uncompromisingly followed and the residents of Lahore witnessed unprecedented efficiency of LWMC.
Serene Air to offer discounted package
to ICCI members
ISLAMABAD (Online): The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Serene Air (Pvt.) Limited to get discounted package for its members on domestic air travel. Sheikh Amir Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Khalid Bashir Anjum, Chief Commercial Operations of Serene Air (Pvt.) Limited, signed the MoU at a ceremony held at Chamber House. The Serene Air will provide 15% discount to ICCI office bearers and executive members and 10% corporate discount to ICCI members and their families on domestic air travel through its flights. The discount package will be offered on production of valid ICCI membership card. The Serene Air will also offer special privileges to ICCI members including protocol and fast track service at airport, guaranteed seat confirmation, free boarding of infants, special discount to children, pre-allocation of seats and in case of flight cancellation, guarantee to accommodate on next flight.
Speaking at the occasion, Sheikh Amir Waheed, President ICCI thanked Serene Air for offering attractive package to ICCI members and hoped that it would facilitate them in visiting major cities of the country to attend business meetings and explore new business opportunities. He said cooperation of air lines with business community was important to promote economic activities and added that the special package of Serene Air was a right step in that direction. He urged that ICCI members should take maximum benefit of these incentives for exploring new possibilities of strengthening business linkages with domestic counterparts.
SBP chief calls on Sindh governor
KARACHI (APP): Governor of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Tariq Bajwa on Monday called on Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair. At the meeting held at the Governor House, matters pertaining to economic targets, GDP, steps taken for stability of the Pakistani currency, economic activities, foreign investment were among those that came up for discussion. Zubair said that foreign investment can be increased by fostering Pakistan's image based on ground realities. He was of the view that US investors were unaware of such a situation and were reluctant to come up with investment in Pakistan. Governor Sindh, who has just returned from a US visit along with a delegation, said that through conference, receptions and road shows the positive image of Pakistan based on ground realities were promoted. With this, he added, the US investors appeared willing for investment in Pakistan. Zubair also pointed out that owing to economic policies of the present government, the economic and trade activities in Pakistan have enhanced.
In this regard, he was also appreciative of the role of the SBP.
Tariq Bajwa said that the SBP has undertaken comprehensive measures for achieving the targets of the GDP. The positive results of these would come to the fore soon, he added. Governor SBP also said that steps taken for the stability of the Pakistani currency are producing far-reaching results.
Lahore-Sialkot Motorway project to
become functional in August
ISLAMABAD (APP): The work on grand project of 91-km-long Sialkot-Lahore Motorway is underway as Frontier Works Organization (FWO) is building the road on Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, an official of National Highway Authority (NHA) told APP on Monday. He said that the project will cost about Rs 43 billion and would be completed in August next year. The under-construction motorway would help link remote areas with big cities and reduce the distance between Sialkot and Lahore. The mega project would not only ensure fast inter-city travel but also provide economic boom as well as create employment opportunities in the region, he said. Giving details, he said the motorway starts from Sahowala-Sambrial and passing through Daska, Pasrur, Gujranwala, Narowal, Muridke and Ferozwala and terminate at Kala Shah Kaku. He said for the benefit of the public the eastern bypass from Kala Shah Kaku will also be opened well before the completion of motorway.
The official said that the four-lane motorway would have eight interchanges, which would reduce travel distance and time between Sialkot and Lahore considerably.
