LAHORE - Heavy rainfall has been recorded in upper catchments of rivers and tributaries while more rainfall is expected, as a result of that, the inundation in low lying areas and heavy to very high flash flooding is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa rivers. Similarly according to latest meteorological conditions, heavy rainfall is expected in the upper catchments of river Indus. The river is likely to attain a high to very high flood ranging between 5,00,000 to 6,50,000 cusecs during the period from Saturday evening to midday on Sunday (today). At Kala-bagh, to attain 6,00,000 to 7,00,000 cusecs till midday on Sunday The river would also attain the level of 5 to 7 lakh cusecs at Chashma during the period. At Guddu the river is already at exceptionally high flood of 10,00,000 cusecs, also very high flood at Sukkur and Taunsa, river Kabul at Nowshera and river Chenab at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad are in high flood. However, river Jhelum at Rasul and river Chenab at Trimmu are in medium flood. River Jhelum at Mangla is in low flood. Meteorological department has said that yesterdays well-marked monsoon low over west Orissa has moved west north-westwards and now lies over southeast Madhya Pra-desh (India). If it did not weak, it would penetrate into parts of the country. Meanwhile, the southeast monsoon current is penetrating in sub-mountain areas of Punjab and Kashmir upto 5,000 feet while a trough of westerly wave is moving across northern parts of the country. As a result, widespread thunderstorm rain is expected over Khyber PK, North Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. The south Punjab, Sindh, northeast Balochistan will also receive scattered thunderstorm rain. Lahore will remain cloudy with occasional chances of thu-nderstorm/rain. On Saturday, Risalpur received heavy rain of 132 mm, Mandi Bahauddin 86, Phulra 74, Kalapani 70, Oghi/Abbota-bad 61, Islamabad 57, Dhamial 43, Golra 16, Kamra 63, Saidu Sharif 48, Sialkot 43, Shinkiari 40, Tarbela 38, Bhakkar and adjoining areas 36, Bannu/Dir 36, Kund 33, Rawalakot 21, Balakot, Cherat, Kakul etc 35 each, Gujranwala 17, Skardu 15, DIG Khan and Kotli 13 each, Nawabshah and nearby districts 12 each, Jhel-um 10, Kohat, Bannu, Pesha-war 40 each. Raja Riaz leaves for Jampur Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed, accompanied by office-bearers of PPP, despite serious warning of threat, has left for Jampur for expressing sympathies with the flood affectees. According to a press released issued here on Saturday, Chief Engineer Irrigation Dera Ghazi Khan, during a briefing informed the Senior Minister that overflow of a high flood in River Indus could cause a damage to Muzafargarh-DG Khan Super Highway within next four hours due to which the Road would get blocked for three days. Despite the danger, the Senior Minister did not change his decision and left for Jampur.
