Lack of evidence' lets Babar Awan walk free

A civil court in Rawalpindi on Friday set Former Federal Minister Dr. Babar Awan free in a robbery and abduction case due to insufficient evidence. The court also dismissed the Petition submitted by Punjab Government for re-hearing of the case. The Courts verdict, read out by Civil Judge Rai Mohammad Khan. The Court observed that the respondent failed to produce sufficient material against Babar Awan. The applicant Sher Iftikhar Adil had registered a case with New Town police in 1998 that Babar Awan who was riding with his associates in vehicle No 786 intercepted him when he was passing through double road on his car. The accused snatched bag from him and threatened him to withdraw the case otherwise he would be killed.
