Khan Khwar hydropower to add 72MW from July

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Khan Khwar hydropower project is expected to be commissioned the next month which would add 72 MW of power to the countrys transmission system. Work on the project was initiated in June 2003 and was set to be completed in June 2006. sources told APP here on Monday adding that later the date for the completion was extended till February 2010. They said the dam height was 30 meter and length of Headrace Tunnel was 4540 meter adding that its preliminary cost (PC) was estimated Rs.5,362.705 million which also included Rs.2,644.098 million foreign aid component. The sources said that power generation was the main objective of the project which is being built at a tributary of Indus River in district Shangla Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The plant would generate 306 Gwh per annum of electricity, they said. They said that once operational the project would not only help reduce gap between demand and supply of electricity but also minimize load-management.
