PESHAWAR - The World Health Organisation has given medical supplies worth $200,000 to strengthen District Headquarters Hospital, Haripur, and Urban Dispensary Kalabat.
“The equipments will upgrade diagnostic facilities and other medical procedure and patients’ care would be improved”, Dr Guido Sabatinelli of the country representative of the WHO at a ceremony marking handing over of the donated stuff to the KPK Ashfaq Khan the other day. He said the world health agency had been assisting the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department by equipping the health facilities with high-tech machines with a view to strengthen these healthcare facilities, which also catered to the needs Afghan refugees besides local population. Fifty per cent of the patients visiting these hospitals were Afghan refugees since long due to which we want to equip them, he said.
On the occasion, equipments including one ambulance portable X-ray plant, ultrasound machine, Hematology and Chemistry analyzers, blood bank refrigerator, microscopes, dental units and delivery kits were handed over to the KP health department.
The WHO’s Operation Medical Officer Dr Saeed and EDO Haripur Dr Mazhar Ali Shah also spoke on the occasion. Secretary health Ashfaq Khan said that the timely provision of medical assistance in earthquakes, floods and outbreak of epidemics by WHO had been praiseworthy. The province had been able to take effective measures against TB and HIV/Aids, he said and urged for more collaboration to cut down incidence of diseases through preventive steps.
The government in collaboration with the world health organisation had developed disease early warning system that had helped the health department in making evidence-based decisions, he said. He said that establishment of well-equipped Labour and strengthening of other seven health facilities in Haripur will make health services for the patients easier.
