Stating that the United States enjoys a very special relationship with Britain, White House said that it is looking forward to work with the new British Prime Minister. We look forward to working with the new Prime Minister, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters here. Gibbs said U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday afternoon saw news reports about what the likely projections of the British parliament were. Obviously it is a bit fascinating to watch, he said. Meanwhile, State Department also kept a close eye on the election results. We are watching it closely and we look forward to continuing our close cooperation with whatever government emerges, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said at his daily press briefing. This is a great day for political junkies and, I mean, its a testimony to vibrancy of UKs democratic system, but the United Kingdom is our strongest international partner - shared values, shared world view, and shared responsibilities on many, many key fronts. And that is not going to change, Mr. Crowley said. Said to be the most-contested British elections of modern times, the general elections resulted in a hung Parliament and defeat of the ruling Labor Party after 13 years in power. The opposition Conservative Party won the maximum number of seat, but still falling short of a working majority. It is now seeking support of the Liberal Democrats to form a minority government.
