Our Staff Reporter MULTAN - The Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan declared on Wednesday that September 16 will be marked as Dr Aafia Siddiqui Day across the country. In order to raise demand for her release as well as to express solidarity with her family, well mark September 16 as Aafia Siddiqui Day, declared Kanwar Siddiq, a spokesperson for the Jamaat-e-Islami. He said that protests would be held at district and provincial headquarters under the leadership of senior JI leaders. He added that Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Syed Munawar Hassan would address a big rally outside Karachi Press Club while Secretary General LIaqat Baloch and Deputy Secretary General Farid Paracha would address the participants of demonstration outside Lahore Press Club. He said that the Multan demo would be led by deputy secretary general Mian Maqsood Ahmad, Peshawar Sirajul Haq and Quetta Abdul Mateen Akhunzada. JI PROTEST DAY ON 11TH: Similarly, the JI is going to mark September 11 as protest day on accomplishment of 10 years of American drama, Kanwar Siddiq further declared. He said that country-wide protest demonstrations, seminars and conferences would be organized on this occasion to condemn American terrorism in the world. He said that JI Multan would organize a seminar in a local hotel and the proceedings would be chaired by Secretary General JI Punjab Ch Nazeer Janjua. MEPCO ORDERED TO REPLACE METRE: A local consumer court has ordered the authorities of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) to replace the meter of a complainant and remove excessive units from his bill here on Wednesday. The complainant Muhammad Aslam Siddiqui had filed a petition in consumer court, pleading that he was being subjected to excessive billing by Mepco. The judge of consumer court had issued a verdict on July 6, asking Mepco authorities to correct the bill of the consumer and replace his meter. However, the consumer again contacted the court on non-implementation of order on which the judge consumer court has directed Mepco Mumtazabad sub division to correct the July bill of the consumer and produce the bill before the court on September 12 besides replacing his meter. Monsoon downpour washes away 'cosmetic arrangements: Like other parts of the country, the monsoon rains also started in Multan as a massive rain and thunderstorm lashed the city on Monday night and continued intermittently till Tuesday morning. The drizzle resumed Tuesday noon and the city received another light spell. The rain seriously damaged old and mud houses. On the other hand, the weather forecast released by the Met department said that the rains were likely to continue for the next couple of days. The metrological department has so far recorded 25.5mm rain. The monsoon rain also washed away all cosmetic arrangements made by the district administration. Though the Water and Sanitation Authority had claimed that the disposal of rainwater would be accomplished within a couple of hours after the shower, it completely failed to carry out this operation. The stormy downpour started at about 1:00am on Monday night and continued till wee hours of Tuesday. The second spell started in the noon and ended after half an hour. Resultantly, all low-lying areas came under rainwater, paralyzing the life. The city presented the view of an island as small and large water pools and lakes appeared in different areas after the rain. Meanwhile, the Agriculture Department has issued a warning to the cotton growers, asking them to ensure pest scouting twice a week. The threat of pest attack on cotton crop has intensified due to increasing moisture in the air. The growers must carry out pest scouting regularly, the warning added.
