KARACHI - Renowned playback singer of Saleem Shahzad who is also a Radio and TV artist has been deprived of Rs 3,000/ monthly stipend which he had been receiving for one and half year from the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sport. Talking to The Nation Saleem Shahzad said that his stipend had been annulled without any reason. He also said that he was also not formally informed about the cancellation of the stipend. He said the stipend was being given to all the artists aged over 65 years in acknowledgement of their services and the amount fixed for the stipend was only Rs3,000 per month. He said that due to the stoppage of the stipend, the old artists of the country were facing hardships in running their household. He appealed to the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani to issue directives to the authorities concerned to restore the monthly stipend. Shahzad is the son of renowned vocalist and poet of Subcontinent, Praim Ragi. Saleem Shahzad has sung playback songs in around 50 films in addition to performing at PTV, Pakistan Radio and stage functions.
