Prison Dept asked to pay salaries

KARACHI (PPI) - Sindh High Court Wednesday ordered payment of withheld salaries for 12 months to computer operators working in Sindh Prison Department at Rs 5,850 per month. Petitioner Abdul Waqar along with eight others submitted through Advocate Mohammad Ali Tak Chippa Home Department abolished 40 posts of OG Wardens in Prison Department, creating equal posts of Computer Operators. Home Department appointed them on contract basis in 2007. then IG Prisons Sindh recommended their regularisation but department stopped salaries since July 2007. He prayed to direct respondents release salaries of petitioners. Counsel contended monthly salary was fixed at Rs 5,850 through notification issued by then IG Prisons Sindh, but respondents deposited Rs 15,84,000 with SHC Nazir on account of computer operators salaries for 11 months calculated at Rs 4,000 per month. He prayed to direct respondents calculated petitioners salaries at Rs 5,850 per month. SHC division bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed & Justice Malik Muhammad Aqil directed Additional AG Mst Halima Khan that amount of petitioners withheld salaries be calculated at rate of Rs 5,850 per month & paid in 15 days. Application was disposed of in above terms. Court orders power supply to Tahir Plaza A division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed & Justice Malik Muhammad Aqil Wednesday ordered KESC authorities restore power supply to Tahir Plaza set ablaze by arsonists on April 9, 2008 in Karachi. Advocate Ghulam Qadir Jatoi submitted many offices of lawyers in Tahir Plaza opposite City Courts were set on fire by mob during violent riots. KESC disconnected power supply to burnt building and not restored since one year. Petitioner prayed to direct KESC officials restore it immediately. Appearing for respondents, Rafiq Ahmed Kalwar submitted KESC was prepared to restore electricity to Tahir Plaza, new meters were installed and arrangements for internal electric wiring of offices destroyed by fire was finalised. Deputy Attorney General Ashiq Raza & Additional AG Sindh Mst Halima Khan produced report of KESC Electric Inspector which says KESC will immediately restore power if petitioner approached it. SHC division bench disposed of petition with direction to KESC authorities to ensure restoration of power supply to Tahir Plaza.
