ISLAMABAD A renowned tennis organiser Shahida Kausar Farooq has announced to contest the election for seat of president Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) which will be held this month April 2010. She said on Thursday that she would be vying for top post of the PTF in the forthcoming PTF elections. I have done enough for tennis as an organiser, supporter of players, brought sponsorships and worked for promotion of womens tennis in the country, she said. Shahida said that she was active in tennis. My track record speaks for itself. I did a lot for tennis and seniors are supporting me for this post, Shahida, mother of former national champion Mahvish Chishtie and an active tennis player herself, said. There should be rotation in the PTF president-ship and this time I should be given chance for this seat. The PTF elections are schedule to be held this month and I am in the run for the top post president PTF, she said. She claimed that current senior vice president Brig (retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar was also supporting her. I met with president Asif Ali Zardari and he complimented my contribution in tennis and environment. He is very keen to empower the women in all spheres of life including sports, she added. Shahida Kausar said that she was delighted on the wedding of former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza and recalled that Sania made her first international appearance during the Junior ITF circuit in Islamabad more than a decade ago. It is going be great for Pakistan tennis with Shoaib-Sania marriage. Subh-e-Nau is the only organisation of its kind that can take pride of holding unparalleled record of successfully organising several international and national tennis events over the 20 years, she said.
