Humayun to challenge Pervaiz's election in ECP

LAHORE - A prominent leader of the PML-Q rebel group Humayun Akhtar Khan has announced to challenge the election of Ch Pervaiz Elahi as Punjab president of the party for the third tenure in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Terming the holding of the PML-Q polls as a sheer violation of the party constitution, he alleged that the 'highhandedness of Chaudhrys had pushed them to the point of no return and said if the irregularities about transgressing the party constitution continued, all doors for reconciliation would be shut down. Accompanied by Kashmala Tariq (MNA), he expressed these views while addressing a Press conference at his residence on Wednesday. He strongly demanded changing the party parliamentary leader in the Nation Assembly and said neither the status of the general council nor the election of Ch Pervaiz Elahi was valid. He said they had filed the petition against the validity of the general council in the ECP and would soon file another appeal against the election of Ch Pervaiz Elahi as a provincial president for third time. He told reporters that the ECP had summoned both the groups [dissidents and Chaudhrys] on July 27 to resolve the dispute. Responding to a query, he said the dissidents would decide their future course of action after the completion of the controversial election process by the Chaudhrys. In response to another question, Hamayun said a meeting of the bona fide general council would be called shortly. We enjoy the support of majority of party workers and leaders along with the senators and MNAs. We will show our strength in the general council meeting, he said. He said the general council elected in 2006 was the genuine one, while the council forged by the Chaudhry brothers was just a shame and illegal. He further claimed that the genuine general council never ever amended the party constitution to get anybody elected to any office for the third time.
