KARACHI: Supreme Court in a review petition on Saturday ended the lifetime disqualification of Sumaira Malik in her degree case. The detailed forensic analysis of her degree showed that it was genuine. The Supreme Court overturned the 2013 decision of lifetime disqualification. Sumaira Malik has been elected three times in a row from district Khushab and is a former federal minister. In 2014, her son Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan has been elected to the NA on a bye election. Now she is eligible to contest elections again.
Sumaira, spouse of Malik Tahir Sarfraz, got elected to National Assembly of Pakistan from 2002 to October 2013. She is sister of Ayla Malik who was also elected as a parliamentarian.
Sumaira was born on 19 December 1963. She was elected to National Assembly from Constituency NA-69 (Khushab-I) as a candidate of National Alliance in the Pakistani general election, 2002. She received 71,925 votes and defeated Umer Aslam Khan, a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) (PML-Q). In September 2004, she was inducted into the federal cabinet of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and was appointed as Minister of State for Tourism.
She was re-elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-69 (Khushab-I) as a candidate of PML-Q in the Pakistani general election, 2008. She received 61,076 votes and defeated an independent candidate, Umer Aslam Khan.
She was re-elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-69 (Khushab-I) as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the Pakistani general election, 2013. She received 119,193 votes and defeated Umer Aslam Khan, a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
