LAHORE – Young doctors and medical students on Thursday barged into University of Health Sciences, besieged the office of Vice Chancellor for four hours and manhandled employees to press for the demand of revision in MBBS second professional examination results.
Failed medical students started gathering outside the UHS at 11:00 am and continued protest for over two hours, causing worst traffic mess outside Punjab University and adjoining roads. At around 1:00 pm, Young Doctor’s Association Punjab President Dr Hamid Butt and a large number of doctors reached the spot and forced their entry into the UHS premises.
After breaking the main gate, the doctors and protesting medical students besieged the office of UHS VC. VC Prof Hussain Mubashar was forced to stay inside his office and he was taken outside from the back door after over four hours. The protesting doctors and students thrashed employees including security guard Husnain and driver Ramzan and used abusive language against VC UHS. They threatened that the VC and other staff could not leave the UHS until revision in result and passing failed medical students. They also suggested constitution of a committee comprising Prof Javed Akram, Prof Faisal Masood and Prof Assad Aslam to investigate the matter.
Dr Hamid Butt said it was a pity that the UHS management was not taking notice of the protest lasting over six hours. He said Deputy Secretary Health Bilal Haider promised constitution of a committee after approval from the chief minister and chief secretary. He said results should be revised and students should not be deprived of their due rights.
