Sindh cabinet briefed on blast probe



KARACHI  - The Sindh Cabinet, in its last meeting on Thursday night, was briefed on the investigation into the Abbas Town bomb blast.
Additional IG Police Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, who was heading the investigation team, told the meeting that results of various measures regarding Abbas Town incident’s probe will come in a couple of weeks.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah presiding over the meeting said the government will not spare any efforts to improve law and order situation, as law and order has been the priority of the government.
On the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Wasim Ahmed, in a report on law and order said, Karachi experienced only ethnic killings in the past, but now sectarian and other target killings are taking place in the City. He said 22 policemen had been martyred in target killing incidents this year so far and 150 police personnel who had taken part in 1995 operation were killed one by one in target killing incidents.
The Additional Chief Secretary also gave details about the Abbas Town incident. The ministers, advisers and special assistants from the Pakistan Peoples Party and its allies-the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) attended the meeting.
The meeting began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, and then Fateha was offered for the souls of the victims of Abbas Town tragedy and Provincial Minister Advocate Rafique Engineer, who passed away after he suffered cardiac arrest this week.
The meeting also discussed law and order situation in Lyari area of the city.
Addressing the meeting, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said following the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and pursuing the policies of President Asif Ali Zardari, the provincial government worked for the development and prosperity of the people of the province. He highlighted the achievements of the government in the fields of agriculture, education, health, industrial and communication sectors. He said the efforts of the government in these fields have started to give results.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, Agha Siraj Durrani, Sassui Palijo, Sharmila Farooqui, Sadiq Ali Memon, Jam Mehtab Dhar, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Mir Nadir Magsi, Haleem Adil Shaikh, Muhammad Ayaz Soomro and Pir Mazharul Haq addressed the meeting.
