Turkey: A university student who stabbed a cat and crushed its head with a water container last year received a three-year jail sentence in Turkey, the local Today's Zaman reported.

Mustafa Can Aksoy, a student of literature in the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, recorded the torture and the killing of the feline on camera and shared the video online.

The newspaper said Aksoy snatched the cat, which answered to the name of “İletki,” from a coffee shop called Café de Kedi in February 2014.

The coffee shop owners sued the 21-year-old student after they found out about Aksoy’s brutal actions.

The court on Wednesday convicted Aksoy of “killing an adopted animal without a justifiable reason.”

Judge Orhan Kucufidancı said he based his decision on his conscience and snubbed the defendant’s request for a more lenient sentence.

Kucufidancı believes Aksoy was not genuinely repentant.
