ISLAMABAD - The local police on Thursday disallowed Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur to meet incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
The police stopped Gandapur at a check post while marching on foot towards the jail. This led to the exchange of hot words between the chief minister and the law enforcement.
“I will go to the jail at all costs, I have a court order,” he said and added, “You cannot stop me, I am the province’s chief executive,” Gandapur told the police officers blocking his path. Accompanied by several PTI leaders and lawyers, he insisted the police show him the order, in black and white, about restraining his entry into the jail.
In a video that went viral on social media, the chief minister was also seen offering the Rawalpindi Police to withdraw his security if they would allow him to enter the jail premises to meet his party leader.
A day earlier, the PTI had forwarded a list of visitors to the jail administration in the light of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) order. The list included the name of Gandapur.
Prominent party figures, including MNA Shahid Khattak, provincial minister Sohail Afridi, Mohsin Jatoi, Jamal Ahsan Khan and Mena Khan Afridi accompanied Gandapur.
