Malmo crowned champions for 16th time

STOCKHOLM (AFP) Former European Cup finalists Malmo were anointed Swedish football champions for the 16th time on Sunday but first since 2004 after a 2-0 home victory over Mjallby. Helsingborg were the only other side capable of depriving Malmo - beaten by Nottingham Forest in the 1979 European Cup final - of the title but their chance evaporated after a 0-0 home draw with Kalmar to lose out by two points. Malmo finished the campaign on 67 points, suffering just five defeats in their 30 matches, while Helsingborg ended up with 65 - last seasons champions AIK finished a lowly 11th. Aatvidaberg and Brommapojkarna were relegated.
