ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party yesterday said it was concerned over government’s negotiations with International Monetary Fund. “PPP expresses concern over IMF conditions, fears more inflation in the country. IMF has proposed to increase sales tax and regulatory duties in Pakistan,” said PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari in a statement. He said the IMF haf also proposed to increase the annual tax target to Rs 63 trillion. “Pakistan is an independent country, how can the IMF dictate. Thr PPP is concerned over IMF proposals. The PPP rejects all these conditions of IMF,” he added.
Bukhari said if IMF’s dictation was implemented, “no one can stop tsunami of inflation in the country.”
Inflation, he said, was already on the rise in the country and the poor were forced to commit suicide.
“If sales tax and regulatory duties are increased then people will be on the streets,” he warned.
