Terror vs restraint

The enemy seems to have a multi-pronged strategy. It launches attacks on many fronts. In the ongoing war against terror, Pakistan has failed the enemy plots one after another. First, the enemy thought the terrorists would be able to engage the army for a long, long time and, eventually, wear it out. Then, they hoped that the issue of IDPs would blow out in our face and Pakistan would not be able to handle it. Seeing both the plans fail, they have now launched yet another attack, i.e. the allegations of extra-judicial killings and violation of human rights. The attack is lethal as it has been launched through the so-called champions of human rights in Pakistan. The problem is some of us are at war against our own country and are unable to smell the foreign intrigue. The HRCP chairperson Asma Jehangir spoke nothing when the terrorists made lives of the people of Swat and Malakand hell in the last many years. They challenged writ of the state, forcibly took young men from every home to be enlisted as terrorists and suicide bombers and unleashed a reign of terror in the entire valley. The terrorists deserved no mercy, if you think they do please recall the demonic videos depicting them beheading law enforcing agencies personnel to create shock and awe in Swat. Despite their terrible crimes, the Pakistan military has never used terror as a response to the terror. -JIYA LAJJA, Peshawar, via e-mail, August 29.
