City admin discards 1,000 litres of adulterated milk

ISLAMABAD -The city administration on Wednesday discarded over 1,000 litres of adulterated milk as it took action on the reports of supply of substandard milk to twin cities. According to officials, a joint operation was conducted by Punjab Food Authority and Food Department, ICT against milk adulteration at Islamabad Toll Plaza exit from 03:30 am to 09:00 am. The action was taken on reports of supply of adulterated milk to other cities. The officials said that a total of 18 vehicles carrying 72,410 litres of milk were checked and approximately 1,000 litres of adulterated milk had been discarded. Besides this, the officials also imposed a fine of Rs140,000 collectively on the violators.

Like other big cities of the country, Islamabad and Rawalpindi are also facing the problem of supply of adulterated milk to the residents. However, the Authority hardly takes any action against the culprits. The milk being supplied from Punjab to the capital’s markets in open pots is not only below standard but is toxic as well. Water is the basic adulterant added to increase the volume of milk. Adulterated milk is responsible for spreading various diseases among consumers.
