Door-to-door verification of voters from 22nd

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would start door-to-door verification of around 80 million voters from August 22 to make the Draft Electoral Rolls transparent. The process of verification was delayed citing variety of reasons including work load, Ramazan, bad law and order situation and request from teachers association. Earlier, it was decided that the commission would carry out the verification process from August 8 to September 17 but now the campaign would begin from August 22 and continue till September 30. An official of ECP told this news agency that the commission has granted time to NADRA to print and deliver the Draft Electoral Rolls till August 17 as the authority was facing some practical problems in printing of more than 80 million voters detail in the Draft Electoral Rolls. No any further extension in the time would be permitted and in case of any delay, responsibility will be fixed on the department concerned, the official said. ECP has imparted training to 2,11,000 verifying officials and supervisors, who will conduct the verification. The teams will go door-to-door and get a form filled from a family to update and verify the information. The form will be signed by the head of family. The final voters list will be displayed at different locations across the country so that the citizens can check their names and complain about any error, objection, correction. A tribunal will be made to address the complaints of the citizens after displaying the final voters list which will issue notices to both the respondent and the petitioner. The form to be filled by a citizen will have a separate box for the information about the constituency with which he belongs. And if a person changes his location he will be supposed to submit an application for deleting his name from that constituency and move toward other. It is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that such electoral rolls database is going to be made which will eliminate all possibility of double and bogus voter lists.
