ISLAMABAD - Sindh Colours hammered KP 5-1 in the 29th National Women Hockey Championship 2016 here at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium Tuesday.

A total of four matches were played on the 5th day of the mega event and things were quite improved as Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary Olympian Shahbaz Senior taking serious notice of The Nation stories was present on the venue and was himself monitoring the situation. His presence also bring an army of PHF officials including women wing representatives on the venue, who went completely missing for the last four days. A focal person was also deputed to keep on updating journalists who had turned up in quite few numbers to cover the mega event.

Shahbaz not only apologised for the inconvenience journalists had to face and players were not given the respect they deserve but also promised he had make sure no such repeat of things and to keep event continue smoothly. Talking to The Nation Shahbaz said things sometimes not go according to the plan but they had only one aim and that is to take Pakistan hockey to same old glory days. He admitted it is a very difficult task and it would take time but said when there is a will there is way. “We have set goals and everybody will soon see positives. We had accepted the posts as a challenge to deliver and slowly and steadily we would achieve all the set goals.”

In the first match of the day, Sindh were too strong for KP women. Despie missing numerous chances, SIndh successfully thrashed KP team 5-1. Tehmina Ghulam Mustafa was the star of the day for Sindh, as she scored a superb hat trick while Hina Sarwar and Momil scored a goal each for the winners. Gule Rukh scored the consolation goal for KP.

In the second match, two superbly fit and evenly matched teams Railways and Army played out a 0-0 draw after displaying extra-ordinary attacking and defensive field game to the delight of the spectators.

In the third match, goal keeper Rashna Khan starred for Punjab Colours to help them edge out star-studded HEC 2-1 in the major upset of the tournament. HEC entered the match as firm favourites and Rukhsana Shoukat put them in front in the 12th minute of the first quarter and they were looking all set to score at least 2 more goals but Rashna made some spectacular saves and was highly applauded by the sizable crowd. Punjab started to show some resistance in the third quarter and their efforts brought desired results as Ariba Sarwar first scored to level the match and then in the dying moments of the match Hamra Lateef scored the winner for Punjab to send wild jubilations among Punjab fans.

In the last match of the day, Balochistan beat Sindh Whites 1-0. Rozina scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute.
