Pak Embassy in touch with US govt over Pak community's fears

California shooting

WASHINGTON - The Embassy of Pakistan is engaged with the relevant US authorities to ensure that the Pakistani community's fears of insecurity and discrimination are addressed in the aftermath of last Wednesday's mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, an Embassy Press release said.
"The Embassy of Pakistan shares the anxiety and concerns of the Muslim American community and possible backlash in the wake of San Bernardino incident," the Press release said. "The Embassy is working closely with the Pakistani-American community to address their concerns."
US-born Syed Rizwan Farook, who is of Pakistani descent, and his wife Tashfeen Malik, a Pakistani citizen, reportedly stormed a holiday party in San Bernardino, killing at least 14 people and injuring 21 in the deadliest mass shooting in the US in three years. Hours later, the couple reportedly died in a fire exchange with police.
"Our physicians, engineers, IT professionals, lawyers, entrepreneurs as well as industrious wage earners are contributing to the socio-economic development of the United States as well as Pakistan through their hard work, integrity and commitment," the Embassy said.
The Pakistani diaspora's role as a bridge between two friendly countries, cultures and peoples is adding value to the efforts  of the two Governments and is well acknowledged at all levels.
Pakistan's Ambassador to the US Jalil Abbas Jilani has urged the community to continue to work hard and honestly, as responsible citizens and residents of the United States.
In a letter addressed to the community leaders and leading community members across the US, Ambassador Jilani has assured the Pakistani-American community of Embassy's cooperation and assistance.
