BZU ranked 5th best national university

Multan - The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan has been declared fifth best university of Pakistan in Times Higher Education ranking.

The varsity is ranked second best in general category. The ranking shows that Quaid-e-Azam University stands at the top while Comsats is ranked second, National University of Science and Technology third, University of Agriculture Faisalabad fourth and BZU Multan fifth best varsity of Pakistan.

Similarly, the varsity had also surfaced among 350 top universities of Asia for the first time in its history.  It has also been ranked second best university in general category for the first time due to its performance in research.

QUALITY COTTON SEED

ON SUBSIDISED RATE

Additional Secretary Agriculture (Task Force) Beenish Fatima Sahi disclosed on Friday high quality cotton seed for sowing on two lac acres of land would be given to the farmers on subsidised rate next year, adding that a strict ban had been imposed on cotton sowing in the province before April 1 and strict action would be taken against the violators of the ban.

She observed this while inspecting the burning of cotton waste in brick kilns and the process of disposal of waste in ginning factories and oil mills in different areas of South Punjab on Friday. She said that the enforcement of cotton calendar would be ensured to achieve the goal of high quality bumper crop of cotton. She stressed upon all stake holders to cooperate with the agriculture department so that effective management of pink bollworm's larva. She said that there were strong chances of attack of pink bollworm on early sowing and therefore the agriculture department had imposed ban on early sowing of cotton in the province.

She stressed upon the pesticide and ginning industry to support agriculture department's off season management initiative for achieving positive results. She directed the pest warning and extension wings of agriculture department to collaborate with the industry and launch a massive drive for the success of off season management plan. She disclosed that field teams had been made active for the effective control of white fly and pink bollworm and regular monitoring was being done.
