ISLAMABAD   -  Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said yesterday that Pakistan wanted to enhance trade ties with Romania and Spain. Speaking to journalists before leaving on a four-day tour to the two European countries, he said Pakistan already enjoys good ties with the two nations.

Qureshi said he expected fruitful meetings with the Romanian and Spanish counterparts during the trip. FM Qureshi said Pakistan’s foreign policy was aimed at enhancing cooperation with all the countries and promoting peace.

During the first-leg of his visit, the Foreign Minister will stay in Bucharest till today (January 20) at the invitation of Romania's Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu. FM Qureshi will hold wide-ranging consultations with the Romanian Foreign Minister and other dignitaries on regional and international issues.

He will subsequently visit Spain on the invitation of Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno and will stay there till January 12.

Besides meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Qureshi will hold talks with other ministers and members of the Spanish Parliament.

Later yesterday, Foreign Minister Qureshi arrived in Bucharest, on the first leg of his three-day official visit to Romania and Spain.

Upon arrival at the airport, the foreign minister was received by Ambassador of Pakistan Dr Zafar Iqbal and senior officials of the Romanian foreign ministry.

During his stay, the foreign minister would hold meetings with Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ionel Ciuca, foreign minister Bogdan Aurescu, Romanian economic minister and others.
