RAWALPINDI - Benazir Bhutto Hospital administration has terminated services of some 35 contract employees on the direction of PML-N stalwart, reliable sources informed TheNation on Thursday. Sources said that the hospital administration had terminated the services of some 35 contract employees following the directions received from an influential political figure. However, the hospital high-ups denied the sacking of these employees. Sources said that these 35 employees have been given the pink slips on the directions of Sheikh Aslam, personnel secretary of PML-N stalwart and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. They said that Chaudhryn Nisars personnel secretary himself had come to the office of MS BBH Dr Zaman Khan Niazi and asked him to sack all these contract employees. These employees were recruited in the tenure of PML-Q government. Sources said that the contract employees of Allied Hospitals would also be sacked in the upcoming days as lists in this connection were being prepared. When approached, the Personal Secretary of Chaurdhry Nisar Sheikh Aslam rebutted the allegations, saying; Neither he nor his boss Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has asked Dr Zaman to remove these contract employees from their services. Commenting on the issue, the MS BBH Dr Zeman denied the allegations of sacking the contract-based employees. But when this scribe tried to get further information from him in this regard, he disconnected the phone. Contrary to the claims of BBH MS, a latter No E-III/Gen/Admn 11136-39 dated 30/6/09 signed by Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) Administration Dr Fayaz was sent to 35 contract employees informing them about their termination. A copy of this letter, which is also available with TheNation reads: Expiry of contract appointments. You were appointed as junior clerk for the period of 1 year up to 30/6/09. When contacted, BBH AMS Dr Fayaz said; I could not utter even a single word on this issue as Punjab government has sewed our lips. BBH PRO Dr Bashir Malik is the concerning authority in this regard. However, Dr Bashir Malik could not be contacted. The fired employees include Muhammad Sohail (storekeeper), Muhammad Adeel, Faisal and Zeeshan Zafar (junior clerks) While talking to TheNation, they alleged that they had been made scapegoats in the tug of war between PML-N and PML-Q. They said that Punjab government had pushed 35 poor families into the hell of problems. They said that they were the only bread earners of their families. They said that that they have not been paid salaries for last one month as the hospital administration feared that employees might be approached to court of justice. They said that they would file a writ petition in the court against BBH administration. It is pertinent to mention here that contracts of terminated employees were supposed to be extended from July 1, 2009 for a period of one year.
