KARACHI - The lawyers fraternity on Thursday rejected the presidential ordinance regarding the imposition of Petroleum Development Tax by increasing the oil prices. Addressing the mediamen here at Shuhda-e-Punjab Hall in City Court, Secretary-General Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Naeem Qureshi, said that likewise the previous government, the current government was also going against the judicial decisions, as the President Zardari had moved against the Supreme Courts verdict by bringing his presidential ordinance. He said that the SCs step to suspend the Carbon Tax was a breath of relief for the public and the people lauded such SC move. But the next day, the government imposed another tax and disappointed the people. Qureshi said that their movement for restoration of independent judiciary was not only to reinstate the deposed judges, but was also for the struggle of the peoples rights. There are big number of ministers in the cabinet who are giving wrong advices to the president. He also claimed that some elements wanted to bring the elected government against the judiciary. He demanded of the government to withdraw new tax and suspend the new oil prices. Later, the lawyers took out a rally at MA Jinnah Road and chanted slogans against the government. They also staged sit-in and blocked the road.
