LAHORE - PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has asked British Foreign Secretary, David Miliband to woo British government to play its effective role in stopping the US drone attacks inside Pakistan as such attacks are causing massive civilian casualties along with heavy collateral damages. The PML-N Chief was talking to David Miliband who called on him at his Raiwind residence on Wednesday. Talking about the negative impacts of drone attacks, Nawaz Sharif said that drone attacks had been proving counter-productive as they were causing deaths of innocent people at large. During the long discussion, both leaders took stock of Pak-UK bilateral relations and stressed the need for exploring more avenues in enhancing strategic and economic ties. He commended the role of UK government in providing financial assistance for the rehabilitation of IDPs. Nawaz Sharif underlined the need of friendly relations between India and Pakistan to ensure peace in the region, adding that it could happen only when leadership of both the countries resumed dialogue afresh. He urged the PPP-led government to firm up its comprehensive strategy to wipe out extremism and terrorism. He said that unless people of Pakistan become prosperous, neither the menace of terrorism and extremism could be uprooted nor internal and external conspiracies could be dealt with properly. Nawaz Sharif said the basic reason behind the intensification of terrorism was the imposition of numerous martial laws in the country. David Miliband reiterated the resolve of the British government to continue supporting Pakistan at this critical time. He appreciated PML-N government in Punjab and its leadership for ensuring the good governance in the province. Later on, David Miliband also called on Governor Salman Taseer and talked about Pak-UK ties. Miliband also visited Badshai Mosque and Lahore Fort.
