ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) named eight-man national team to compete in the World Beach Games, scheduled to be held from July 16-26 at Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Two officials would also accompany the squad for international mega handball showpiece. According to a spokesman for Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Pakistan team had got the berth in the international fixture by winning the Asian Beach Games Bali. Pakistan will meet world champions Croatia on July 18 in their opening fixture of the World Beach Games. Green shirts will take on Turkey on July 18 and Thailand on July 19. Besides Pakistan, Croatia, Turkey and Thailand are bundled in pool A while Brazil, Hungry, Oman and Host Chanies Taipei are in pool B. The national training camp for preparation is in full swing at Sand Court University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Pakistan will leave from Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore on July 14 for Taiwan. However, Pakistan team consists of Abdul Wahid (head of delegation), Maqsood Waseem (Coach), Naseer Ahmed, Tahir Ali, Muhammad Sohaib, Muhammad Uzair, Babar Sultan, Nasrullah, Muhammad Shahid Pervaiz, Tariq Iqbal (players). The PSB provided a special grant of sum Rs.1.5 million to the Pakistan Handball Federation to meet the financial challenges. Haji Muhammad Shafiq, Secretary General, Pakistan Handball Federation will also attend the World Beach Games on the invitation of the Organising Committee. Thirty-one sports disciplines are the part of World Beach Games 2009.
