Awami National Party is generally known as a secular, democratic and nationalist party. But it is shocking to observe its recent policies. It has failed to favour restoration of Ch Iftikhar and his fellow deposed judges despite knowing that a majority of the people of Pakistan support this issue. ANP is jubilant after hearing the news of abandonment of Kalabagh Dam despite there being an acute shortage of power in the country. The party is also rather fixated on the change of name of the province to Pakhtun khawah when in present circumstances it is not hot issue. I feel that the reason ANP is tamely following Mr Zardari's every move is that it has its own provincial agenda to fulfil. Isn't that being the MQM of NWFP? -M.
