LAHORE Pakistans top racing driver Adnan Sarwar has been selected for the 2010 Asian Formula Renault Championship to be held at the Shanghai Formula 1 Track and the Zhuhai International Circuit in China. The Bank Alfalah-supported driver will be competing against the top racing drivers from the Asian region and will become the first local Pakistani driver to compete at this level of international formula racing. Hailed from Lahore, Adnan started his professional racing career in 2005 in Go Karting and went on to represent Pakistan in the 24 Hour Karting of Dubai. In 2006, he became the first local Pakistani to successfully test for the now defunct A1 GP Team Pakistan and received his International Formula Racing license. In 2007 and 2008, he went on to compete in China and India finishing in 8th place starting from the back of the grid in his first international formula race at the Indian championship. In 2010, Adnan scored Pakistans best ever result in an international race by finishing 4th in the World Series of Karting event held in Dubai. This is a dream come true for our project Racing Pakistan and the result of years of hard work, said Adnan about the upcoming Asian Series. We are proud to be representing Pakistan in the racing world and are hoping that we will not only do the nation proud but also present a modern, progressive and talented face of Pakistan globally as sporting ambassadors of the country. I believe it is extremely important that we have managed to come this far while there is not even a single race track in Pakistan which only goes to show the inherent talent of our people. With top speeds exceeding 275 km/hr, the Formula Renault has been a gateway to Formula 1 for drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen. Adnan will be testing the car in July 2010 to get used to the tracks and the car with French Team ART Grand Prix under the supervision of Ex Formula 3 driver Philippe Descombes.
