ISLAMABAD -
Sheer negligence on part of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) costs Raja Imtiaz, an employee of Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) working under the PSB, life of his brilliant son. According to details Imtaiz’ son, who won gold medal in Mathematics, lost his battle against blood cancer at the age of just 18 and his father remained tendering several requests to get clear his nine-month salary from the PSB to bear the expenses for his treatment.
But all his requests fell on deaf years and despite several promises of clearing Imtiaz's long overdue dues, PSB high command failed to materialize their promise. Imtiaz had requested the PSB high command to release his salary as the treatment of cancer is very expensive and he had no other source of income. Imtiaz had also visited Pakistan Baitul Maal office countless times, seeking their help but the poor father despite running from pillar to post failed to get positive response from the so-called well-wishers and ultimately his son breathed his last in the wee hours of Sunday.
It is quite unfortunate that the PSB didn't responded timely and just kept on giving date one after another. The poor father has demanded that justice should be done and culprits must be given exemplary punishment.
Imtiaz has requested Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry to take notice of this grave injustice as at one hand the PSB had liberty of releasing funds to their blue-eyed federations and on the other the poor employees, who didn't want anything that is not their right but the salary which they owed, it has nothing for them. There is no one who can make the two Director Generals of the PSB answerable, who are managing things at their own self-styled way and depriving the deserving ones from their basic rights.
It is pertinent to mention here that PST employees’ salary was approved by the PSB’s 73rd executive committee meeting, which was held way back in March 2013 and despite various instructions from secretary Inter Provincial Coordination to release the salaries, the DG PSB failed to implement the orders in true letter and spirit and keeps on sitting on the orders. A timely and strict action is the need of the hour so no one could in future even dare to do so as it is sheer injustice with a father who lost his son just because of some individual's negligence.
