ISLAMABAD - Expressing serious concern over law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, senior members of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) are mulling reshuffling in police department, reliable sources told The Nation on Sunday.
According to sources, the PTI Executive Committee has in principal decided to ask the executives of KPK government to reshuffle police high-ups after seeking approval from Imran Khan.
The sources said that PTI leadership is seriously working to devise strategies to ensure peace in the province and reshuffling in various departments is likely in coming days.
Given that a police officer of junior rank is heading the police force as IGP in KPK that has not only irked the seniors police officers but also badly affecting the efficiency of police force, the new provincial government intends to replace the incumbent IGP with a senior police officer from within the KPK police department.
According to sources, Ehsan Ghani, incumbent IGP KPK, is far junior than some of the officers of KPK police including AIG Shoukat Hayat and CCPO Liaqat Ali Khan. While appointing Ehsan Ghani as IGP KPK police, authorities ignored the senior police officers that had sent a shocking wave among the police department especially all those who were senior to him. Since the appointment was made following directions of Election Commission of Pakistan, the senior police officers accepted the move and had chosen to cooperate with them.
“Since PTI believes in merit, we are devising strategy to ensure speedy justice and merit in the institutions. The high-ups of provincial government have been informed about the injustice done to senior police officers in KPK police department. They are sorting out how to bring the house in order,” a senior official of KPK remarked on Sunday when contacted. He however, requested to remain anonymous.
This correspondent couldn’t contact IGO of KPK police to get his version. However, Shoukat Hayat, one of senior police officers of KPK police department declined to comment on the issue.
