“I have been stating in my statements and speeches about my stance on the terrorism. I demand that the government should quickly devise a strategy to deal with terrorism. He said that the situation had not gone out of control we could still devise a plan.

“If we did not take action against the terrorists it would embolden them and they would keep on carrying out brazen attacks,” he added.

ISLAMABAD

Pakistan Ex-servicemen Association (PESA) on Monday said the tragedy that has struck Quaid-e-Azam International Airport in Karachi appears to have burst the bubble of good governance in Pakistan.

Claim of TTP that this attack was a reaction to recent killings of some terrorists in a local operation is unbelievable pack of lies, it said. The former military strategists observed that a raid of such proportion at a large airport couldn’t be launched as a spontaneous reaction to a local operation that was carried out in reaction to raids by TTP related groups.

This was observed in a meeting of PESA held with its President Lt Gen (Retd) Ali Kuli Khan in chair. Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmad Tasnim, Brig (Retd) Mian Mahmud, Air Marshal (Retd) Masood Akhtar, Lt Gen (Retd) Naeem Akbar, Brig (Retd) Masudul Hassan and others were also present in the meeting.

It is the failure of police, CID and IB in particular, to break into gangs of terrorists, particularly their centres in cities, the former generals said. They said that the TTP must have carried out comprehensive planning and preparations before launching this raid.

They noted that police could only succeed if there was stability in tenures of senior police officers and entire police force and other investigating agencies in Pakistan are not politicised.

The PESA expressed its fears that TTP would use the drama of so-called peace talks and ceasefire to spread and strengthen their tentacles in major cities for some big blasts.

Unfortunately that has come true. There should have been no doubt in any one’s mind that TTP leader Fazalullah would never agree for peace with the government of Pakistan, they opined. Fazlullah is determined to avenge his defeat in Swat. If there are real indications about rifts among TTP groups, it may be more fruitful if back channel talks are carried out with those groups, which are willing for peace, said the PESA.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari has strongly condemned terror attacks in Karachi, Taftan and Miran Shah, North Waziristan Agency (NWA), in which, according to reports, dozens of security personnel, innocent citizens and airport staff have been martyred.

The former president said in a statement that there are no strong words for condemnation of this series of heinous attacks in which our brave soldiers and innocent civilians have been martyred and injured. These attacks will never weaken the nation's resolve to fight these barbaric terrorists till their last defeat. He said, "Our valiant forces have been offering supreme sacrifices in the war against terrorism and the entire nation salutes them."

He urged the nation to unite and rise up against these vicious and wicked terrorists that are out to destroy the country.

Zardari prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and early recovery of the injured and offered sympathies with the bereaved families.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that a befitting response to terrorists would be given and none would dare repeat such an act.

Karachi Airport attack is unpardonable, the terrorists have targeted the national assets in their cowardly attack, he said.

The terrorists will be defeated in their own havens, he expressed the resolve, adding, that the State will forcefully respond to such acts.
