LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has declared that with the grace of Allah Almighty, another milestone in public service has been achieved as the province successfully carried out the largest cleanliness operation in its history during Eid-ul-Azha.
According to Punjab government sources, the Chief Minister personally monitored cleanliness efforts across both small and large cities over the three days of Eid. Expressing satisfaction at the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the public, she praised the performance of all relevant departments and institutions. She lauded the dedication of waste management companies, district administrations, officers, and field staff, noting their commitment to meeting high standards of service.
The Chief Minister noted that for the first time, a province-wide cleanup operation of this scale had been conducted across 10 regions, 41 districts, and 146 tehsils. Commissioners, deputy commissioners, and assistant commissioners actively took part in the drive by visiting neighborhoods, inspecting arrangements firsthand, and collecting direct feedback from the public. Waste collection points were set up in every locality, and disposable bags were distributed to households to ensure timely removal of animal waste.
The operation was monitored digitally from a central control room established at the Punjab Safe City Authority. In Lahore, the Lahore Waste Management Company exceeded its targets by collecting and disposing of waste efficiently and promptly. Across Punjab, major roads, streets, and public pathways were washed with phenyl and rose water to maintain hygiene and freshness.
During a detailed briefing to the Chief Minister, it was revealed that 111,121 tons of garbage were collected on the first day of Eid, 112,161 tons on the second day, and 10,000 tons on the third day. Lahore alone accounted for over 71,343 tons of waste, while substantial collections were also made in Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, and Sargodha.
In total, 143,429 liters of phenyl, 30,563 liters of rose water, and nearly 3 million kilograms of lime were used across the province for sanitation purposes. Authorities informed the Chief Minister that out of 10,681 complaints received during the three days of Eid, 9,901 were resolved. Over 11.9 million free disposal bags were distributed, while 1,684 altars, 816 dump sites, and 3,970 union council camps were set up for public convenience.
The public, in both urban and rural areas, expressed their satisfaction and gratitude, praising Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and her team for executing such a timely and effective cleanliness campaign.
