KARACHI - National Database and Registration Authority is endeavouring to empower women by providing basic rights as enshrined in the constitution of Pakistan and has adopted a fair and equal employment policy to empower them in every walk of life.
Nadra stands out as the public sector organisation with over 2,200 women employees who are working at NADRA which makes 13 per cent of the total strength, whereas the government quota is specified as 10 per cent.
In a statement, Nadra Chairman Tariq Malik said in order to be counted one had to ensure that he/she was in counting. He stressed on the need that womenfolk should come out and register themselves as eligible voters after getting CNIC.
He further said Nadra takes pride in increasing women registration by almost 86 per cent during the last three years. He said, “This hallmark been achieved because we have designated ‘Fridays’ for women registration days on which only women’s identity card processing is supposed to be entertained. In addition to this, we have 12 exclusive NRCs and seven mobile registration vans for women only across the country. The exclusive centers have all staff is also women from top level to bottom.
The total registration of Women who have received their genuine computerised national identity card has reached to a number of 40,611,518 women. In KP province total women registration number is 5,385,530, 634,360 in FATA, 22,562,339 in Punjab, 8,788,842 in Sindh, 1,471,158 in Baluchistan, 400,366 in Islamabad, 273,332 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,095,591 in Azad Kashmir.”
Tariq Malik said, “Now, first time in the country’s history, the women will become the integral part of real change at national level because there are 37.4 million females included in the current electoral rolls and will take part as eligible voters in forth-coming general elections. It may be noted that this number does not include female voters’ data of GB and AJK due to separate election commission.”
The spokesperson of Nadra said in a press statement issued that the authority encourages its women employees to take part in all departmental activities irrespective of gender discrimination and raise their voices against workplace harassment and inform Anti-Harassment Committee against such advances to ensure speedy justice. On the special initiatives of Chairman Nadra, we’ve come up with a unique idea of ‘Open Contest’ at national level that revolves around the theme that will provide an opportunity to the creative individuals to make a short documentary and video jingles highlighting Nadra’s role in Women empowerment.
She said today Nadra was committed to provide dignified work environment by implementing legislation, “The Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010”, which is approved by the government. Not only Anti-Harassment Policy is in practice in Nadra since 2010, but also Anti-Harassment Committee comprising of senior officials of Nadra, is actively ensuring respectable and conducive environment for women, she added.
