The ongoing closure of border trade is causing immense hardship for thousands who rely on it for their livelihood. With over 20,000 individuals directly dependent on this trade, the shutdown has pushed many into economic despair, especially in regions already suffering from limited job opportunities.
The impact goes beyond economics—prolonged unemployment risks fuelling crime, social unrest, and mental health issues, including depression and suicide. The rising frustration among affected communities is understandable and deeply concerning. I urge the government to act swiftly and reopen border trade. Doing so will protect countless livelihoods, promote social stability, and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
