KARACHI : Installation of aerial bundled cables (ABC) in one of areas of Keamari has been completed in two weeks under K-Electric’s flagship community development project ‘Ujala’.
Work is under way on a fast track basis in other areas. A ceremony was held recently to mark the achievement.
During the drive, illegal connections were removed and maintenance work on power infrastructure was done. Installation of new equipment, including 51 poles, was ensured. This initiative will ensure supply of reliable power to the residents and help improve load management in the surrounding areas due to reduced losses. Moreover, an IBC on wheel was arranged to facilitate consumers on their doorstep and 350 meters were installed. Another 150 meters would be installed soon.
According to K-Electric spokesperson, the utility has so far transformed different communities through installation of ABC, new transformers and low-cost connections. Localities like Lines Area, Liaquatabad, Ghazdarabad, Rehmat Chowk, Altaf Town and Keamari are now power theft-free with a minimal fault ratio. These areas were previously infested with illegal connections and fault ratio was quite high. K-Electric launched its flagship community development project ‘Ujala’ earlier this year with an estimated investment of Rs5 billion to lighten up the houses of more than one million people.
The utility has pledged to help improve reliability of power supply to these communities.
