Legislation-specific joint Parliament sitting tomorrow

| Treasury lawmakers asked to ensure their presence during joint sitting for easy passage of pending bills

Over two dozen bills were referred to joint session for approval

ISLAMABAD   -  The PTI govt has summoned legislation-specific joint session of the Parliament tomorrow [Thursday] to pass controversial bills, which were blocked by the Opposition-dominated Senate.

The over two dozen pending bills could not be passed by the government side within the stipulated 90 days period from the upper house of the Parliament.

The government side, through the National Assembly session, has properly forwarded all these bills for upcoming joint sitting in order to approve them with majority vote.

The Opposition will strongly resist approving these bills, as it strongly opposed referring these bills to the joint session.

The government side yesterday [Tuesday] twice faced defeat in blocking legislative bills moved by the opposition MNAs.

Taking notice of this situation, sources said that senior members have conveyed all lawmakers to ensure their presence during joint sitting for easy passage of pending bills.

On the other hand, the opposition, after defeating the treasury benches in the National Assembly, has decided to give tough time to the government in joint sitting during legislative business.

Political experts viewed the PTI’s government with the support of coalition partners enjoying a majority to easily defeat the opposition in the legislation.

The government, which enjoys majority in the two houses combined together, taking the plea under Article-70 of the Constitution, will pass these bills in a legislation-specific joint sitting of the Parliament.

The bills referred to the joint session include; ‘Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Amendment in Section 4)’, ‘National College of Arts Institute Bill, 2021’, ‘Privatization Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Pakistan Academy of Letters (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Corporate Restructuring Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Financial Institutions (Secured Transactions) (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘SBP Banking Services Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Loans for Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Purposes (Amendment) Bill’, ‘Maritime Security Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Port Qasim Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021’, ‘Gwadar Port Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021’ and others.
